How to use this site

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Biological Records Centre has been set up to gather, store, and share information on Cambridgeshire and Peterborough's wild species, habitats and protected sites.

To keep our database up to date we need your help! You do not have to be a wildlife expert, and we are not only interested in rare species. To make a valid record we need four key pieces of information:
What: Positive ID of species
Where: Location
When: Date
Who: Name and contact details. These are necessary in case we need any other information. (Contact details will never be disclosed to anyone else)

This site has been designed to make submitting your records easier, and can be used in the following way:

1) To make a quick record, under the Start Recording heading on the homepage click on the "Record one of our most commonly recorded species" link . You will then be presented with a list of species, which are the most commonly recorded. If the species you wish to record does not appear on this list, then please click on the "full list" link, above. If it still does not appear, then please click on the special observations link where you can make your recording. The species listed are ones which we have written information about and can be seen on the record maps. These maps will be updated everytime a recording from the species list is made.

Once you have selected the species, you will be asked to fill in a form asking for the four key pieces of information described above (What, where, when, who). With regard to the location, there are three options; either give the postcode or a grid reference or use the map to show the location of your record.
There is also a comments box for you to add any extra information about your record.
After submitting your quick record you will be given the option to become a Full recorder.

2) Why become a Full recorder? This will allow you to quickly make records without having to fill in your personal details everytime. It will also keep a record of your own personal recordings at all of your locations which you can sign in to see at any time.
To become a full recorder, simply click on the register button.
